Change Agent In Education

Our Change Story

Humaira Bachal was amongst the few children from her slum settlement going to school. She thought of this as a punishment until she witnessed the death of a baby cousin as a result of being administered expired medicine by his illiterate mother. It was this traumatic incident which triggered her drive towards omitting illiteracy by providing education to the underprivileged. She started bringing together the children of her neighborhood and teaching them whatever she learnt, persuading her classmates to teach alongside her. What started from these humble beginnings in 2008 has today, six years later, transformed into a school educating over 700 students in shifts from 7am until 10pm, including adult literacy classes for young women and evening classes for child laborers. The 22 young teachers, aged between 13 and 24, all continue their own education at the same time as they teach others.
